Scenario: You’re scrolling through your liked songs on Spotify, trying to figure out which ones to add to your tricking playlist. As your mouse alights on each track name, you ask yourself, “Does this rip? Slap? Smack?” Before you know it, you’re breaking out the whiteboard and calculating its banger status like Aziz Ansari on Parks and Recreation.
Well, dear reader, let me give you a head start. I’ve consulted with my fellow music lovers here at UST, and we’ve put together a playlist of 25 songs that will serve you well at your next session. No matter what kind of music you like to train to, there’s something for you in the playlist below. And to find out who recommended each track and why, just scroll down a bit farther…
Neil Toussaint
- “Get Out” by Circa Survive: Loopkicks 2013 sampler song! This sampler was my #1 hype for quite a while. Listening to this while training is the closest thing to being back at that gathering. Thanks for the edit, Devon!
- “No Complaints” by Drake, Metro Boomin, and Offset: If you're feeling like a punk during training, listen to this. As the title says, stop complaining and get to work 💪
- “Core” by RL Grime: Everyone at the session will part the seas for this drop 🔥
Scarlet Astudillo
Any old school reggaeton / Bad Bunny / Rosalía because it fires me up and makes me feel like a badass regardless of what mood I’m in. Also, I find that dancing can be a great way to warm up and these kinds of songs get me moving instantly.
Mike Hom
- “All I Want” by A Day to Remember: Guthrie samplers!
- “Favorite” by Ru AREYOU and Duckwrth: It’s Rudy Reynon!
Ashley Adams
- Anything by Tame Impala.
Adam Devenport
My favorite songs to sesh to nowadays is the new shit, and sadly it’s not all on Spotify. Recently discovered stuff we jammed to on tour such as:
- “Stackin’ Money” and “RUN UP ON ME” by Saint Miller
- “Pimped Out Caskets” by Sacrifice
Justin Carney
- “Down South” by Wale, feat. Yella Beezy & Maxo Kream
Melissa Basch
- Dad Mayo! Recently discovered (thank you, Rhys Moore) mashups that really get it going!
- Disney Goes Punk. This playlist checks some key boxes—it’s kid friendly, and it slaps. If you like punk and are in need of a clean playlist, this is a gem.
- “Uproar” by Lil Wayne: Honestly, any song that I’ve played with some fun choreography to will reignite that energy and passion.
- “At the Speed of a Yellow Bullet” by Head Automatica: Heavy-ish but upbeat, great song for once you’re warmed up and throwing down.
- A heavy cover of “Toxic” by Britney Spears: I said what I said.
Gaby Macias
- “Confleis (No Soy Santa)” by Snow Tha Product: This has been my go-to song to listen to before the session. It gets me hype, and I love me some Snow!
- “Controller” by Channel Tres: I like to groove when I train. Channel Tres has some hype funky music to help you get creative at the session.
- “Con Altura” by Rosalía: This song has smoothness and hype at the same time. It’ll get you moving whether you’re tricking or not.
- “Rotation 112th” by Jay Rock: I have so many good memories from the 2018 Tricking Tour, driving from gathering to gathering with this album on repeat. This album is hype and has great options to train to.
- “King for a Day” by Pierce the Veil feat. Kellin Quinn: Every tricker has either seen a sampler to this song or made one to it. If you’re chasing that trick or combo, this song will help you land it!
Jeremy Price
- “Rave-up Tonight” by Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas: Sick anime vibes with a vicious drop.
- “When Silence Breaks” and “Infest” by Breakdown of Sanity: Perfect for that final push at the end of the session, when you’re trying to summon what remains of your energy for one last killer combo.
Well, there you have it! Here’s the link to that playlist again—now go press play, crank the volume up to 11, and slay those tricks!
